New AFK Dodge System!

I think we all wanted something like this to be implemented and now Riot has confirmed that it is, indeed, in the works!

This system was discovered on the PBE and posted on Reddit, much to everyone’s confusion. Thankfully RJ Combo joined to clarify:

    • afksystemA queue dodge penalty will be applied to players who fail to select a champion. The penalty functions the same way as a standard queue dodge from closing the client.

    • Solo players who did select a champion are returned to the front of the matchmaking queue.

    • Arranged teams are handled the same way as with a failed ready check. If all members selected a champion, the team is re-queued. If any member failed to select a champion, the team is sent back to the arranged team lobby.

    • Draft mode is handled on a pick-by-pick basis. The game terminates when a player’s pick timer has expired without a champion selected. Players further down the pick order who did not have a chance to pick are given the benefit of the doubt.

RiotDamiya was kind enough to remind us it’s an unfinished system:

Kayle_Splash_UnmaskedPlease note this feature isn’t active just yet. I promise you that those of us that worked on it are just as eager to see it out the door as you folks are! :)

Buuut…

Keep in mind that some sort of LP penalty should be introduced for AFK-ers, otherwise people would easily exploit it to avoid unfavorable matches. Aside from that, it’s an absolutely fantastic system that Ranked Lobbies were in desperate need of! Hopefully we see this implemented soon.

Good luck on the Fields of Justice!

    @sillyman
    If somebody doesn’t want innovation in their game and just wants to play a standard game then they should be able to.

    Platinum isn’t any better than bronze, bro.

    In other news, why is there still no way to report and kick players from champ select?

    I am sorry, innovating in bronze? Innovating even in silver?… plat? SURE…. Diamond? SURE… Gold? Eh… maybe… BRONZE???? I am sorry that people don’t trust other bronze players to innovate the meta….

    @Doug

    The thing is, people get mad at people for being “trolls” even if they aren’t being trolls, and are actually advancing the meta. ww with heal/cv is probably a bad example for this, but there are always champs like season 2 mundo that people thought were really horrible when they were actually very strong. If you have something to deal with trolls, it would also prevent those people from innovating. Cuz people are stupid and they can’t tell the difference

    That wouldnt work, you are getting a new person in to replace that one person and his role…not giving him a chance to chat and see how he can be fit…I see alot of players going support because of this if they were to implement what your talking about@Medarco

    Is it not possible for the person that randoms to be kicked, and a new player brought in? When the last person to pick is the one that dodges, its a waste of about 6 minutes (or more) of 9 players’ time. you average a waste of 54 life minutes when someone dodges at the end of champ select. If you could just bring another solo queuer in and give them a 90 second clock to communicate and figure out what is going on, you save over an hour of people’s time.

    “I don’t like the idea that if you don’t click your champion fast enough you are marked as dodged.” Seriously? It takes you more than 20 seconds to pick a champ at the role in which you are playing? If I call jungle and I’m 2nd to pick, I figure mine out while others are picking so I can quickly select and move on. This system will at least be a good start to alleviatin us of afkers.

    @ELD
    they stated if you dodge one of your promotion matches your promo series will be ended, so why didnt you just try to play the game anyway if you knew (or didnt knew) it will be ended? as much as I can understand your anger, yes it was kinda your fault that you are on 90 LP again

    They should do what they do for Dota2, if someone leaves or afks, they take all 5 loses (doesn’t apply for premade 5s).

    hmmm i was in series with 100 points and my team pick ashe with revive and miss with revive and no one left afther that i left i don t want to play a game with 2 trolls afther that i go in and i was on 90 points no more in series…and what Riot my fault there?

    @peter

    That’s retarded logic, I don’t care if someone I’m likely never going to see again gets banned. All I care about is that I’m losing points that cost my precious time to acquire. By your logic millions of people have to suffer to sort through all the scumbags via bans. If it takes dozens of reports to get someone in the tribunal and multiple tribunal bans to permaban someone that means dozens upon dozens of people will have to suffer through troll losses just to get rid of 1 player.
    “it may not be a good pick but certainly he could outplay them”
    thats total bullshit and you know it, anyone that would even pick those summoners is either retarded or troll by default, they won’t be outplaying anyone.

    March 7th, 2013 at 04:39 | #15

    @peter
    The whole problem is that Riot refuses to deal with trolls properly. The pre-game chat isn’t even included in tribunal cases. If you can tell that your team is a troll team before the game even starts, why should you waste your time or be punished for dodging? All they’re doing is punishing real players.

    March 7th, 2013 at 03:48 | #16

    @Xenphire why? because a heal cv warwick has to result in a loss? it may not be a good pick but certainly he could outplay them. if he feeds, report him. he gets a ban, done.

    True to that one. Players who are ark from the start should ruin games. I lost 20 league points yesterday because two ppl didn’t even bother to move. They stood on the platform the whole game. These games should not count. Surely there is a way to detect this and end the game there and then instead of having to play 3 vs4 and lose or surrender and lose league points.

    I just don’t understand why there is SUCH a negative response to dodging. I understand we do not want someone dodging because they just got counter picked. When I get in a game and it is full of toxic players or obvious trolls/bad players (I.E. that good old Warwick with heal/CV), I should have the right to leave this without fear of being punished. I often hear about people using dodging to get to a rating that is beyond their skill but I am left wondering how many people are stuck in ratings LOWER than their skill because they are consistently left in games with toxic or bad players. Now I may not be one of those players. I may be terrible. The point remains that a player shouldn’t have to be punished for wanting to deal with toxic or bad play.

    @Xeraph
    bans have like a 20seconds timer or something. And if they are afk that means they will random and be kicked anyway. 0 reason to extend it to bans

  22. Damiancrr
    March 7th, 2013 at 02:04 | #22

    there should be a notification directly after the random saying “are you still there” with a 5second timer. I dont like the idea that if you dont click your champion fast enough you are marked as dodged. Honestly sometimes i miss my pick cant it randoms me. That doesnt mean im going to feed or do aweful or even that im afk and i dont feel i should be penalized for it. You can play any champion you want to, including randomed champions. This weekend in tournment plays ive seen adc’s solo top support jungles ad carry and junglers mid. You can make anything work and if all else fails and you are in ranked, ask if someone wants to trade you.

    I think this should be extended to the bans phase. If the “leader” fails to utilize any of his 3 bans, a queue dodge penalty should be applied. I’ve been in one too many matches in which the “leader” presses accept to join the lobby then goes afk, not banning anyone.
