After a tenure in Team ROCCAT and joining newly formed Team Origen in late April, Titus “Ducky” Hafner has surprisingly announced that he will be stepping down from his position as Head Coach.

Finishing at 2nd place in both the Summer Split and Playoffs, Origen made an impressive debut with Ducky at the helm, qualifying for the World Championship in their first split of the LCS. With worlds looming just a month away, this move comes at a critical time for the team, as Ducky has stated that he will not attend worlds. Here is an excerpt from his post, citing some of the reasons for his departure:

There are many reasons for this decision, but I don’t intend to share any details with the public. I can say that Origen as an organisation is very player focused / protective, which makes it difficult as an authority figure to push changes and break old habits. Not being able to contribute as much as I want to and being limited in my role built up a fair share of frustration. I’s important to me, that I don’t stagnate and improve as a person and go beyond taking care of analysis and preparation.

Ducky also took to twitter to clarify his statements:

Currently it is unclear who will fill his shoes at the World Championship, though Ducky has said that he proposed a “strong successor”. NoL will update this story as details emerge.

Roster Swaps Banner

The offseason roster dance has already begun in the latest round of changes. With the Summer Split just a few weeks away, teams are looking to do whatever they can to ensure their success in the second half of Season 5.

After leaving the team to join Elements, Martin “Rekkles” Larsson is set to re-join team Fnatic, replacing current Fnatic AD Carry Pierre “Steeelback” Medjaldi. Steelback will compete with the team at the Mid-Season Invitational, with Rekkles taking over the starting position shortly after in preparation for the Summer Split.

Following his departure from team Roccat last month, Titus “Ducky” Hafner has found a new home in the newest addition to to the EU LCS, Team Origen. Qualifying to the LCS via the Summer Promotion Tournament with only the feedback of analysts, Ducky will assume the Head Coach position under a trial period lasting through the first week of the LCS Summer Split.

Ducky official statement on joining Origen:

Hey!
So today we decided to announce that im currently being tested for the coaching position of Origen!

After I left ROCCAT, I looked for a new team and chose to support Origen for their promotion series against CWA. Everybody agreed afterwards, that we should continue working together.

However, since Coaches are measured by sucess and ROCCAT had a very poor season, it’s understandable, that they want to take their time to test my input and abilities and make sure I’m a good fit for the team. Therefore I will be supporting them until the first week of LCS and the decision if I stay will be made based on the work, that I have done to this point.

Regardless of the past and the upcoming decision, I will remain dedicated to coaching, as it is a field that is very underdeveloped and needs dedicated people to grow.

Wish me good luck.

Official Announcement

To round things out, Mitch “Krepo” Voorspoels, the most recent support player of Elements, has announced that he will be retiring, effective immediately. Citing a lack of enthusiasm and wishing to pursue a career in analysis and casting, Krepo had this to say:

All good things come to an end. Lately I found myself having a little less fun with the game. Looking back i’m having a hard time finding 3 consecutive days where i’ve been truely happy in the last few months. Hell, i’ve been getting salty and even a tad toxic in soloqueue as of late. Most of it stemming from the fact that I care a lot about winning & playing the game correctly, but I think i’ve gone too far in that mindset sometimes. I’ve always said the moment playing this game stops being fun and feels like a grind, i’ll retire. And i think that moment has finally come.

No stranger to roster changes, Team Roccat is rumored to have parted ways with head coach  Titus “Ducky” Hafner, and is currently hosting tryouts for their AD Carry position.

A poor split performance and differences of opinion leave Roccat in the search for a new coach heading into Summer Promotion. While the removal of Ducky is the only change thus far, sources say they have been considering the high ranking Challenger AD Carry “EXORKK” as a replacement to current AD Carry Woolite.

EXORKK has been recently seen duo-queuing with Roccat Support Vander.  “ChewedUp” Rodriguez, a U.K. player with limited competitive experience, is also potentially on trial for the AD Carry position.

Woolite and Ducky both came to Roccat from the Copenhagen wolves under an air of praise, with Woolite winning the LCS Rookie of the Year award in 2014.
