MINION CHANGES Banner

Just some bugfixes for minions and their wacky behavior.

The only one that’s worth calling out is the last one on the list – this was actually implemented in 5.22, and primarily helps melee vs ranged matchups with respect to basic attacks. Simply put, the ‘call for help’ used to be around yourself and not the enemy, meaning that when they’d harass you off the wave, your minions would often ‘pretend’ not to notice as they went about their business. Now minions are more courageous and will actively watch for enemy harassment.

Minions no longer freeze or awkwardly lock eyes with other minions

Minions now display how much bonus damage or damage reduction they have from the pushing changes implemented in 5.23

Minions no longer acquire new targets that are in the river or jungle, and if they enter the river or jungle they’ll refuse to acquire any target until they leave. (Implemented in 5.22 but undocumented)

Now additionally calls for help in a ring around your opponent when attacked near minions (implemented in 5.22 but undocumented).

NEW CHAMPION SELECT Banner

The New Champion Select is almost ready for live. It will follow a staggered release, with public testing for NA and TR beginning on January 13th. Below you can find a rundown of how the new system will work:

[ Note ] The new Champion Select will replace Team Builder. [ Source ]

Before you queue, you’ll be asked to pick your Primary and Secondary role. Logically, your Primary role takes priority in the matchmaking:

New Champ Select 1 New Champ Select 2

The queue interface is standard fair. The wait time is displayed at the bottom, rather than the top of the client and there are new visuals for the ticking time confirmation:

New Champ Select 3 New Champ Select 4

Inside the Champion Select, you’ll be placed on a 3D map of Summoner’s Rift, with an arrow-type indicator for your role:

New Champ Select 18 New Champ Select 5

I was Captain here, so I couldn’t ban. Instead, I could give a visual cue to teammates of what I wanted to play. This phase is a suggestive “I want to play this, please don’t ban it” type – if my teammates wanted to, they could’ve banned Yasuo, but I’ve shown them I want to play that Champion.

New Champ Select 7 New Champ Select 6

There’s a neat animation for bans, where the banned Champion’s portrait will disintegrate into shards. Here’s how it looks like for both allied bans and enemy bans:

New Champ Select 9 New Champ Select 8

Once banning is complete, picking resumes as is currently on live. The Champions picked (or hovered over) will be displayed in a circular shape. Once selected, they will play their Champ Select quote for everyone:

New Champ Select 12 New Champ Select 14

Here’s how the interface looks like if the player hasn’t picked a Champion yet, for both ally and enemy-side:

New Champ Select 15 New Champ Select 16

Once picking concludes, you can lock in your Champion or pick a different one. There’s also a new interface for your available skins:

New Champ Select 11 New Champ Select 10

The last part of Champion Select is a standard wait period to adjust your Masteries. Note the location of UI elements:

  • Bans at the top left and right;
  • 2D map with Roles and Champions picked on the bottom right;
  • Summoner Spells/Masteries on the bottom.

GENERAL CHANGES Banner

  • Starting Gold has been increased from 475 to 500.

Champion Changes

Ashe Final Portrait

[ Change Goals ]

  • Allow Ashe to interact with chance-based crit events in a way that doesn’t compromise her recently-new passive’s steady damage output.
  • Follow up the changes made to Ranger’s Focus (Q) earlier this year to make the spell a more interesting, engaging part of her pattern.

Change BoxFrost Shot Final IconFrost Shot [ Passive ]

  • Base slow decreased from 5/11/17/23/29/35% to 5/9/13/17/21/25%
  • Dealing bonus damage via Frost Shot no longer counts as a Critical Strike (bonus damage unchanged)
  • Ashe can once again crit, but for half the damage of regular crits.  Her crits will instead apply Frost Show’s slow with double strength (10/18/26/34/42/50%), decaying to the base amount over the duration of the slow

Change BoxRangers Focus Final IconRanger’s Focus [ Q ]

  • Slow amplification and cooldown removed;
  • Can no longer be cast at less than 5 stacks, and passive Focus no longer stacks while the active component is running;
  • Passive no longer stacks with Volley [ W ] and Enchanted Crystal Arrow [ R ].

Caitlyn Final Portrait

General Box

  • Scales 10% less with bonus Attack Speed

Buff BoxHeadshot Final IconHeadshot [ Passive ]

  • Damage now additionally scales with Caitlyn’s Crit Chance at a 2:1 ratio (e.g at 50% Crit Chance, it deals +100% damage);

Are AD Carry mains ever happy with the meta

Ghostcrawler New PortraitThis is a healthy discussion, and I can try to help it along a little by providing some context about how we think about the meta.

(As a meta comment, “meta” is one of those words that gets used to describe so many different things that it has started to lose some of its meaning.)

First, we’re okay with having a 1+1+2+J configuration. Things like duo jungle or three champs in one lane may happen from time to time, but we’re not going to go out of our way to support them. For the most part, the way players allocate number of champs per lane works, and we don’t feel the need to monkey with it.

Second, we are trying to keep the concept of position (top, middle, bottom, jungle) separate from role (fighter, mage, assassin, tank, etc.). We care a lot less which roles are played in which positions as long as the game is healthy overall (more on this below). The characteristics of some roles is going to make them better at some positions (e.g. most junglers are melee) and we’re okay with that. Likewise, there are some individual champs that we don’t want to see frequently in particular positions, because the results tends to be less fun for everyone. The word “Support” is particularly confusing here, because it refers both to a role (“utility mages” like Janna and Sona) as well as the (traditionally bottom) position of jumping into a lane with another champ without actively farming minions. A support role like Sona can play the support position, but so can a mage or a tank.

Third, every role (and ultimately every champion, though we’re not there yet) has to exist in the game somewhere. This is the big corollary to my second point. If there are mages in the top lane and mages in the mid lane, that’s fine. If that means fighters have nowhere to exist, that’s not fine. Ideally (and I mean in the sense of a compass direction, not the state of the game today) you’d sometimes see mages and sometimes see fighters top. To use the current topic, jungle tanks didn’t feel viable, so we made some changes, and now they are plenty viable and I realize some of you feel they are too viable. In crazy world, maybe there is somewhere for marksmen to live besides bottom and maybe you don’t even need a marskman every game. But let’s not get too crazy yet. We used to design new champs as “Gnar is going to be a top lane fighter.” Now we would say “Gnar is a fighter” and leave it up to experimentation and evolution to determine where he fits best, so long as (1) he has some position in which he can be played and (2) isn’t oppressive when he does.

Fourth, we are trying as a team to be a little more hands off and provide players more room to experiment, and this applies to the state of the meta as well. Now, I’ll admit it’s difficult sometimes for us to make the determination of when it is time to step in. This year, we wanted to give y’all a chance to adapt to the preseason changes, but our opinion now is that we waited a little too long to react. We are pretty happy overall with the state of the game post patch 5.5 and 5.6, but maybe things would have felt even better if we had made those changes in 5.4, while 5.2 likely still would have been too soon. Make sense? Likewise, we know there is some concern that tanks are too dominant right now, but we want to wait a few patches to see if that’s a persistent problem or not. The meta will shift on its own, and has, even without Riot involvement. Sometimes it needs a nudge and sometimes the shift is towards something that is likely unhealthy in the long run, and when that happens it’s our responsibility to take action.

Why is Jinx being nerfed on the PBE

Here is the change being discussed:

Super Mega Death Rocket Final IconSuper Mega Death Rocket [ R ]

  • Minimum damage (from point-blank range) decreased from 125/175/225 [ + 0.5 bonus AD ]  to 25/35/45 [ + 0.1 bonus AD ]

Gypsylord New PortraitOkay got response typed up again.

So as Jinx’s designer I asked to head up the nerfs coming out for her this patch. Let’s talk about them and Jinxy in general.

First full info on the nerfs:

The min damage on the R is being cut. The max damage is staying the same. Additionally, the execute damage is not being touched. SMD rocket will ALWAYS deal 25/30/35% of the target’s missing health regardless of range.

Below are the rough damage estimates based on ranges Jinxs should be familiar with:

NUMBERS AND CHANGES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE (or not). ALL THIS IS STILL IN TESTING

  • R damage @ Point blank: 125/175/225(+.5) >>> 25/35/45 (+.1)
  • R damage @ Minigun range: 175/245/315 (+.7) >>> 110/155/200(+.45)
  • R damage @ Level 9 Rocket range: 185/260/335 (+.75) >>> 135/190/245(+.55)
  • R damage @ Shock Pistol range (max): unchanged – 250/350/450(+1.0)

TLDR summary of the below wall of text:

We like Jinx being strong for a variety of reasons but she may be TOO strong at the moment. Jinx’s snowballing and hyper-carry potential is intended to be strong and we like it where it is so this change is targeted at amping up her main weakness (gets wrekt if jumped on). IF THIS CHANGE GOES TOO FAR WE’LL FOLLOW UP ON IT. THE GOAL HERE IS A SLIGHT TONING DOWN OF JINX’S POWER.

Generally we like Jinx being a strong champ in League of Legends. Even when winning she has a lot of inbuilt counterplay which makes losing to her feel a lot less demoralizing. Thanks to her general immobility combined with the delayed and conditional nature of her spells players tend to come out of games against Jinx with gameplans on how they’re going to beat her next time.

Going off of this, it is likely that Jinx “at balance” sits at above a 50% winrate. This partially stems from the nature of her power profile. Jinx is highly snowbally, especially in AoE focused teamfights, and is one of the best characters in the game at taking objectives after killing off the enemy team. This is going to contribute to a higher number of wins in solo queue where the “group and push” strategy is so prevalent (Jinx loves grouping and pushing!). People group, teamfights happen, Jinx AoE’s things, and 1 kill tends to lead to 1-4 more + towers and dragons.

Additionally, it’s worth mentioning Jinx’s dedicated player base. If you run into a Jinx player on live that person is going to have 31 games on her on average, That’s up there with other “I main dis guy forever” champs like Yasuo, Lee Sin, and Riven. For comparison, Graves has a similar play rate to Jinx (they’re neck and neck for most picked ADC), and yet the average Graves player only has 16 games on him. This isn’t meant to be a knock on Graves but more a highlight on the fact that many of the Jinx’s you run into out there have played her A LOT and as such you’d expect a higher win rate out of her due to player experience.

So I’ve gone over why we’re okay with Jinx being strong so in that case why are we nerfing her? Well the thing is there’s strong and then there’s I AM THE GOD OF SOLO QUEUE strong. Jinx is trending towards the latter and has only been getting better each patch. She’s got one of the highest winrates in the game at 55% across all elos and that combined with her insane playrate is cause for alarm. We felt some light tuning would be appropriate to level the playing field vs. other ADC’s so we looked across her kit and asked ourselves “is there anything Jinx is doing right now that maybe she shouldn’t be?”

So as her designer I’ve always felt that Jinx is defined by the following strength and weakness

A) Jinx is a snowball: If you let Jinx get ahead and can’t figure out how to get to her SHE WILL TAKE EVERYTHING YOU LOVE AND BURN IT TO THE GROUND.
B) Jinx has a hard time with people who invade her personal space. If you manage to jump on her when she’s unprepared you should be rewarded accordingly.

The strength is supported by things like Get Excited (the speed passive), the always-on AS/range+AoE steroids on Switcheroo (the Q), and Jinx’s reach in general which progresses from 525 range – to 700 – to 1500 – to global. This power combination ensures that if Jinx has enough gold and manages to get a foothold of safety/advantage in a fight she WILL GET TO YOU, BLOW YOU UP, AND THEN TAKE YOUR TOWERS. This is good, it’s character defining and it’s what we’d like her to excel at.

The weakness is supported by the ramp up on minigun, the cast/arm times on all her spells/ and the damage w/distance mechanic on the R. If you manage to close with an unprepared Jinx she’s going to have a hard time dealing with you. Her spells leave her vulnerable, her AS needs to ramp for full DPS, chompers take a while to arm, and ideally she can’t just Graves ult you for a burst of power unless you’re incredibly low on health.

^^^^^that last thing is where we found a possible problem. Jinx was winning a number of engagements off the sheer burst power of her ultimate, even at pointblank range. This to me is out of line with her strength/weakness profile.

In summary:

Jinx is a hyper carry who can kill every single member of your team from extreme ranges if left alone but if you jump on her she should be at a severe disadvantage. Nerfing the pointblank ultimate makes the weakness more true and allows us to preserve her strengths in light of extreme power in solo queue.

Follow Up

Do you think this change will affect her playstyle

Gypsylord New PortraitSo yeah I’ve tested the changes and I’m pretty confident that this will not massively affect Jinx’s playstyle. You’re mainly going to feel it against people in melee range of you (and that’s the point) but in the average lane duel at 525 + range it should still be a potent execute. In the early game you’re likely going to need one more basic attack than before to secure those closer range kills.

I’m also willing to admit that we’re not omniscient and this change may affect her in ways we didn’t anticipate. We’ll follow up on it if that’s the case.

Will we ever have new Champions with Taunt

Meddler Final PortraitI expect we’ll make more Taunt using champions at some point. It’s a type of effect with some pretty specific gameplay, so as with other specialized CCs we’ll probably only ever use it occasionally, in part to ensure those champions with it remain distinctive.

Snowdown coming December 16th

This year’s Snowdown event is scheduled to hit on December 16th! It will end on January 6th.

RekSai Scourge of the Desert

Rek’Sai will be enabled on live in the next few days; in the meantime, enjoy her creative spotlight!

“My Dearest Merina,

Arriving in Bel’zhun at last! Though it pains me to leave our beloved country, I am certain Shurima will make my fortune. Uncle Velius left word that, in addition to cartography, I’m to draw “anything and everything of value or interest, especially wildlife.” For this meager service, I’m to be paid an additional three gold securi a day! You need only avoid your mother’s matchmaking for a little while longer. I will soon be able to return to you as a worthy suitor. There are no obstacles that could divert or slow me from that pursuit.

Below is a picture of the view from my window. I couldn’t help but laugh when our innkeeper called his home “a luxurious city!” Ignorance is bliss, I suppose.

Though his payments arrive regularly, I still have yet to catch up with Uncle. It is disconcerting that all I remember of him was his unrelenting mantra that “the lifeblood of the empire is our bureaucracy.”

I find myself employed as part of our nation’s endless clerical staff; ironically, not within its borders, but operating in these uncivilized lands.

My cartographic mission received an unexpected boon after I purchased an ancient stone map. The unsavory dealer was obviously a tomb raider or thief (like most Shurimans), but the item was too precious to pass by.

Today, the caravan hired teams of elujrav’i’, or “bell riders.”

These old men and boys will scout ahead to warn us of any approaching threats. The caravan master also purchased a few dozen saih’kharash’i, or “sand walkers.” These peasants — poor, even by this country’s miserable standards — will trot beside the caravan for their meals. If we find ourselves pursued, we will quickly outpace these unfortunates, leaving them behind as fodder.

In the southern desert, a great deal of suffering is endured to avoid the xer’sai and the other outerbeasts. That my unseen benefactor continues to lead me deeper into this strange and primitive land is unsettling.

A dead xer’sai.

The average-sized specimen was killed a few days ago after annihilating a herd of Eka’Sul goats. Its repulsive flesh oozes and bubbles, while decomposing at an abnormally rapid rate. Not surprisingly, the creatures are inedible. Xer’sai apparently burst from their small burrows and savage anything nearby. That this unimpressive beast should inspire such terror in the caravan’s guards speaks to their ignorance and weakness.

With fifty securi, we purchased a ralsiji. The belligerent giant will make for an impressive display in the arena, but it lacks the ferocity of the xer’sai. Uncle Velius sent word the team is to concentrate on searching for live xer’sai. He has promised me three hundred securi for each good-sized specimen we procure! At that price, I could return home in a month with all of the fortune needed to proceed with our nuptials! I pray your cousin has stopped pestering you to meet that idiot, Genden Belgaunt.

We have entered the “sai,” the rolling plains of sand and sharp stones that define the harsh, southern desert. This is where I will finally be able to catch these mysterious creatures Uncle has fixated on. Within a fortnight, I hope to escape this hateful country’s grinding poverty and the unending silence that defines this land. There is no unnecessary noise permitted in the southland. No laughter. No idle conversation. Natives wait silently by their caravans, listening for the bells that warn of raiders or beasts. How I long to talk openly and to hear your sweet voice again.

A xer’sai the size of your pet hound attacked us yesterday.

Thankfully, our spotters saw it, and our spearmen were able to deploy in time. After it took down one of our guards, his fellows were rightfully enraged, and killed it. Though I could have sold the beast for two hundred securi, I cannot, and will not, blame my guards for taking their vengeance. The deceased wasn’t a man in our noble arenas, chasing fortune and fame; he was butchered by a vile thing without any hope for glory or wealth.

So much of Shurima seems a hateful place, determined to punish any who visit it and grind its inhabitants into submission. I am ashamed to think I once derided the people who live here.

For weeks, I’ve been hearing stories about Rek’Sai — an infamous xer’sai of unmatched size, ferocity, and speed.

“Perfect for the arena!” I laughed, grimly mocking Uncle’s repeated missives. Ridiculing my benefactor to our Shuriman trackers and guards must seem like madness to you, but I find myself feeling more connected to them than to our Noxian traditions. The desert has changed me. It is the absence of everything, and as such, it brings that which is important into sharp relief. Why should a man care for the amusements of the arena? What cherished memory is made there? It is the subtle curve of your cheek and the hint of a smile at your mouth’s edge that keeps the dread of this place at bay. I loathe the thought of Genden Belgaunt courting you and that your family considers him a worthy suitor.

Despite its bleakness, this empty outpost still possessed the only drinking water for leagues, and even spending a few hours in the shade of its ruins was a sweet relief from the unrelenting sun. Supposedly, Rek’Sai annihilated it decades ago. A few weeks past, I would have shrugged this off as yet another ignorant superstition of the desert folk. But I’ve seen too much death. I have walked past the bones of thousands. What sort of monster is capable of inflicting such horror?

Even with the supposed expertise of our Noxian trappers, I find myself doubting we have the means to capture this beast.

A burrow of Rek’Sai.

What possessed me to follow Uncle’s Noxian trappers there? And on the threshold of this beast’s realm, with the evidence right before us, why didn’t we turn back? It was as if we were standing on the edge of a great cliff and were seized by some primal instinct to lean against that emptiness until we plummeted to our deaths.

Thankfully, my Shuriman friends convinced me to turn back before it was too late. I wish I had heeded their advice to look away from the events that followed.

Truly, I cannot even explain what I saw. No violence in the arena could begin to describe this creature’s unspeakable horror. What I witnessed, within the blink of an eye, returns to me endlessly. I do not sleep for fear of seeing it again, and its memory seems always on the edge of my vision. The outerbeasts are a plague, which destroyed these lands, but Rek’Sai is death incarnate.

I hope I never see this unforgiving desert again, and yet, I know now I could never return to Noxus. I do not see our nation as strong. We are as arrogant and foolish as children.

I am seeking a position near the Demacian border or in the southern jungles – anywhere that takes me far from the devastation this creature has wrought. Would it be possible for you to live outside of our capital? Sadly, I know your answer. I must accept that long ago you moved on from my failed courtship, while I was trapped in a limbo of my own design.

I have enclosed the stone artifact I acquired and based my maps on. It is a wedding gift. I truly hope you will find happiness with Genden Belgaunt, but I pray you will not end our correspondence.
And in hope and love, I will always wait for your letters at the edge of our empire’s domain.

Yours,

Aelon”

Why was ChoGaths ult changed

Meddler Final PortraitOur primary goal with these changes was to give Cho’gaths that fall too far behind (lose all/most of their stacks and can’t afford to build them much because they need the CD available) some better options for getting them back, without trivializing stack building. Secondary goals/effects of that change should be a bit of a jungling buff and hopefully a few extra interesting trade offs around who to ult and when. Power wise we were aiming for a slight buff overall, so if we were wrong on that and this is a nerf overall we’ll likely follow up with a buff somewhere.

How does Nocturnes E Passive work

Scarizard Final PortraitOnce Unspeakable Horror completes (and they become feared), you’ll get bonus movespeed moving towards them.

Due to the way that fears have functioned for quite a while now (enemies move away from you), you can effectively use this to ‘steer’ enemies with nocturne in a direction that you choose, while still slashing them into bits.

Hope this makes sense! P.S. Noc’s passive works for /all/ fears, so in the event that you’re chasing someone who happens to run into a jack in the box… :3

Will we get a new skin for Jinx soon

IronStylus Final PortraitSome context:

We’ve had plenty of ideation sessions for Jinx, some concepts also. We scrapped a couple because they weren’t quite hitting the right feels.

That said, Jinx is also a lot of work from a technical side since she has 3 weapons which all have unique animations, limbs, hair, lots of moving parts. VFX also, each weapon ability having distinct visuals.

What’s currently in the works will be getting a nice overall treatment, it’ll take a little time.

Dragonslayer Braum - Passive Indicator

[ Note ] The update was spurred by El Tigre Braum having a visually different passive indicator.

Mindbullets Final PortraitHey all,

Just wanted to let everyone know that we’re giving Dragonslayer Braum’s passive indicator a unique design later this patch. Originally, we erred on the side of caution with the pattern because Braum was a new champ and there were concerns that a different design could cause confusion during gameplay. Now that he’s been around for a while, we’re confident that adding this in won’t cause any problems.

Plus, it looks cool as hell.

Appreciate the feedback on this!

Top Tier Korean Solo Queue Banner

Note: This article was not written by me, but by a friend of mine who’d like to write for the site.

Hey everyone. In this article I’ll go over last month’s top 5 Champions for each role in Korean Diamond Solo queue. I will list each pick’s win rate, games played and Kills-Deaths-Assists (KDA) ratio so you have a clear idea of each Champion’s potential. There are a lot of unorthodox picks that Koreans use to dominate; personally, I didn’t expect to see some of them make the top 5. Keep reading and find out who the hidden overpowered picks are and why you should consider them for climbing the ladder.

Jungling is my main role, so I’ll start with Korea’s top junglers.

Top 5 Jungle Picks

Fiddlesticks New Portrait

  • 54.39% Win Rate
  • 45,390 Games Played
  • 2.66:1 KDA

Pantheon New Portrait

  • 53.48% Win Rate
  • 30,389 Games Played
  • 2.61:1 KDA

Shaco New Portrait

  • 53.45% Win Rate
  • 14,747 Games Played
  • 2.53:1 KDA

Wukong New Portrait

  • 53.38% Win Rate
  • 8,606 Games Played
  • 2.56:1 KDA

Jarvan IV New Portrait

  • 52.54% Win Rate
  • 71,950 Games Played
  • 3.40:1 KDA

Before we begin: I know Fiddlesticks can be played support and Wukong, Jarvan and Pantheon can be played top or mid, but the key word here is can. In the majority of games you will see these picks in the jungle. I was honestly surprised when I saw Fiddle and Shaco in the top 5, because they are some of the hardest junglers to play properly. Fiddlesticks and Shaco have always been strong and can still carry an entire team, but only if you are really experienced with them.  They have a plethora of weaknesses your enemies can exploit. so unless you really know what you are doing, I wouldn’t advise playing them in Ranked.

The rest – Pantheon, Wukong and Jarvan IV – as aggressive junglers with a solid early game, are pretty straightforward. They’re not hard to pick up and, as such, get a solid recommendation from me, even if you’re just now exploring jungle picks and don’t have experience playing them.

Top 5 Mid Picks

Note: Kayle data is irrelevant.

Talon New Portrait

  • 56.15% Win Rate
  • 18,546 Games Played
  • 2.55:1 KDA

Akali New Portrait

  • 54.99% Win Rate
  • 15,934 Games Played
  • 2.31:1 KDA

Kayle New Portrait

Seeing Kayle in the top 5 comes as a shock to no one, but if you’re thinking about playing her, let me stop you right there. In the last week Kayle has dropped down to a 47.99% win rate due to the recent nerfs and I would advise against playing her, at least until she receives some buffs or a new overpowered build is found on her. For these reasons, I’ve included Xerath to fill the missing spot.

Talon has been a great pick for the assassin role ever since Zed got nerfed. I was most surprised to see Akali and Brand in the top 5. Whenever I’m forced to play mid I tend to pick Akali and I have a pretty good win rate with her (57.1%). That I don’t play laners at all and still manage to do well with Akali should be an indicator that she’s worth considering in Solo Queue. It bears reminding that Akali and Talon can be played in other lanes, but tend to do way better on mid.

Also, Katarina and Xerath. Xerath has been gaining popularity and even our lord Faker himself has started to play him. All in all some pretty interesting and unexpected mid laners have become popular in the Korean scene and if you’re wondering what to play you should give them a shot.

Fiora New Portrait

Lulu New Portrait

Riven New Portrait

  • 52.50% Win Rate

  • 2.18:1 KDA

Tryndamere New Portrait

  • 51.64% Win Rate
  • 8,390 Games Played
  • 1.87:1 KDA

The reason I put Lulu as a top and not a mid laner in my ranking is because I rarely ever see her mid and from watching the pros they also mostly put her top nowadays. As for the fifth place, I was debating between Tryndamere and Ryze, but Ryze is becoming more common on mid than on top.  The clear oddities here are Rumble and Fiora, who, if you’re looking for someone new to play top, are worth your attention.

  • 2.73:1 KDA

Jinx New Portrait

  • 53.23% Win Rate
  • 34,312 Games Played

Draven New Portrait

Miss Fortune New Portrait

  • 2.61:1 KDA

Sivir New Portrait

  • 52.31% Win Rate
  • 7,073 Games Played
  • 2.91:1 KDA

Seeing Kog and Jinx here is no surprise after the recent Bloodthirster nerfs and the rise of hypercarries. Draven is like the Lee Sin of ADCs – useless if bad and amazing if good. On that note, it makes sense that he’s dominating in high Korean ELO, but you shouldn’t pick him up expecting to win without having a fair bit of practice. Miss Fortune and Sivir are fairly unpopular picks, but they can snowball and become carry machines if played well.

Last, but definitely not least, the supports.

Braum New Portrait

  • 3.20:1 KDA

Morgana New Portrait

  • 53.51% Win Rate

Sona New Portrait

Leona New Portrait

  • 2.69:1 KDA

Blitzcrank

  • 51.49% Win Rate
  • 44,421 Games Played
  • 2.75:1 KDA

Braum being first is to be expected. This guy is insanely overpowered and fun to play; you can try and pick him up, but good luck getting past his 72.5% ban rate. Morgana is the ideal counter to Braum and so logically takes second place. The odd picks here are found later down the ranks;  I never imagined that Thresh and Nami would be overshadowed by Leona and Blitzcrank, but there you have it .

Why it’s worth to follow the Korean ladder

Although a lot of the Champions I listed here are used in NA as well, some of the picks are wildly unexpected and underrated, and thus deserve your attention if you’re looking for a fresh and, possibly, sleeper OP Champion to climb the ladder with. In League, you learn from those better than you and Koreans are leaps and bounds ahead, so learning how they compete is always worthwhile.
