Welcome to Patch 5.17, the one after the Juggernaut one. We considered titling it something else, but with the incredible impact of the last update we thought it made sense to bring it up again.
While definitely strong (hey Skarner), the landscape of 5.16 is far less apocalyptic than its contents may have predicted. All of the new items have found homes among the rank-and-file fighters, people are playing Lucian, and Renektonâ€™s entered a civil union with Titanic Hydra. Things seem pretty OK. As promised, weâ€™ve stuck to the lighter side of things for 5.17 – there are definitely a good number of champion changes, but thatâ€™s about all there is. With Worlds just around the corner (5.18, donâ€™t forget!) weâ€™re putting the finishing touches on the game-state so everythingâ€™s polished and ready for the big stage. We even have Bard buffs.
Thatâ€™s about all for us here as we dig a little deeper for the last batch of tuning and tweaking of outliers before hibernating a bit until preseason. For those of you wishing for us to hit the Mark on the various outliers running wild this patch, you wonâ€™t have to wait long – They Are Coming.

Once First Strike ends (9/15 23:59 PDT), new PROJECT skins will be deactivated in the League of Legends store until 9/17 to ensure that First Strike unlocks are redeemed properly. On 9/17 00:01 PDT, PROJECT: Fiora, PROJECT: Zed, PROJECT: Lucian, and PROJECT: Leona will be available for 975 RP until 9/24 23:59 PDT (and 1350 RP again after that).
Unlock custom spawn effects and PROJECT minions when you and your team equip PROJECT skins or wards for that game â€” only during 5.17 and 5.18!
Hereâ€™s how it works:
- Optic Enhancer ward skin = 1 Sync Point
- Each PROJECT skin = 2 Sync Points
If you start a game with 2 Sync Points, your team unlocks custom PROJECT spawn effects.
With 4 Sync Points, your team unlocks melee PROJECT minions as well as caster PROJECT minions.
With 6 Sync Points, youâ€™ll unlock cannon PROJECT minions and super PROJECT minions.

- Base Movement Speed decreased from 335 to 325

- Enemies hit by multiple Sand Soldiers will have the duration of the spell’s slow refreshed, but won’t take any additional damage (additional soldiers deal 25% of their damage on live)
- Mana costÂ decreased from 100/105/110/115/120Â to 90 at all ranks
Magical Journey [ E ]
- Cooldown decreased fromÂ 20/19/18/17/16 secondsÂ to 18/17/16/15/14
Hemorrhage [ Passive ]
- The passive bonus damage on 5 bleed stacks has been renamed from â€œBlood Rageâ€ to â€œNoxian Mightâ€
Crippling Â Strike [ W ]
- Additionally, if Crippling Strike kills its target, the mana cost and 50% of the spellâ€™s cooldown is refunded
League of Draven [ Passive ]
- If Draven kills 6 minions in a row without dropping an axe, he gains 2 extra Adoration stacks.
Urchin Strike [ Q ]
- AP ratio increased from 0.3 to 0.35
Seastone Trident [ W ]
- Active magic damage on-hit changedÂ fromÂ 10/20/30/40/50 [+0.25 AP] toÂ 10/15/20/25/30Â [+0.3 AP]
Chum The Waters [ R ]
- Debuff now only amplifies Fizz’s magic damage by 20%, not all his damage
Powder Keg [ E ]
- Keg explosion now ignores 50% of enemy armor, decreased from 60%
- Base Movement Speed decreased from 345 to 340
Decisive Strike [ Q ]
- Movement Speed buff strength decreased from 35% to 30%
Demacian Justice [ R ]
- Tooltipâ€™s been updated to state that Garenâ€™s ult deals 28/33/40% of the targetâ€™s missingÂ Health as magic damage, changed from 1 damage per every 3.5/3/2.5 points of Health missing
Drunken Rage [ W ]
- Now deals 8% of target’s maximum HP as bonus magic damage at all ranks, decreased fromÂ 8/9/10/11/12%
Howling Gale [ Q ]
- The tornade now travels 35% further for every second it’s charged, increased from 20%
Monsoon [ R ]
- AP ratio decreased from 0.6 to 0.5
Counterstrike [ E ]
- Mana cost decreased fromÂ 70/75/80/85/90 toÂ 50/60/70/80/90
Sentinel [ W ]
- Bonus magic damage now dealÂ 10/12.5/15/17.5/20% of the target’s Max HP as magic damage, decreased fromÂ 12/14/16/18/20%
- Passive damage can now proc on the same target once every 10 seconds at all ranks, increased from 6
Fate’s Call [ R ]
- Cooldown increased fromÂ 90/75/60 seconds toÂ 120/90/60
Focused Resolve [ W ]
- Cooldown decreased fromÂ 16/15/14/13/12 seconds to 12 at all ranks
Light Binding [ Q ]
- Mana cost decreased fromÂ 50/60/70/80/90 toÂ 50/55/60/65/70
- Now deals full damage to the second snared target, up from 50%
Vengeful Maelstrom [ R ]
- Cooldown increased fromÂ 40/30/20Â seconds toÂ 60/50/40
- Tooltip now states that if the first target dies, the bouncing hit will critÂ the second target for 150% damage
Paranoia [ R ]
- Cast range increased fromÂ 2000/2750/3500 toÂ 2500/3250/4000
- Base Attack Speed increased from 0.625 0.644
- Consecutive auto-attack animations are now slightly faster
Fury of the Xer’Sai [ Passive ]
- Upon unburrowing, Rek’Sai’s next basic attack or spell no longer generates 15 bonus Fury
Vorpal Blade [ Q ]
- Base heal on-hitÂ decreased fromÂ 6/10/14/18/22 toÂ 3/6/9/12/15
The Spectator UI has been updated visually to match the style of the in-game HUD:

The interface menu now includes an option to display spell costs inside spell icons:
- The spectator HUD has been reskinned to match the new in-game HUD!
New features & updates
- Ability costs can now be displayed in the upper righthand corner of ability icons (via “Show Spell Costs” under the Interface tab of the options menu)
- Added health and resource bar animations when “Show HUD Animations” is enabled (under Interface)
- Restored the custom level-up icons for Viktor’s Augment and Kha’Zix’s Evolve mechanics
- The surrender vote box is now much smaller and slightly transparent
- Ability icons now briefly flash when their cooldown is reduced by another effect
- The chatbox’s position no longer resets between games
- The “?” scoreboard MIA indicator no longer covers respawn timers
- Fixed a spectator bug which prevented the “C” menu from displaying
- Champion passive icons now properly ‘gray out’ when on cooldown
We mentioned a while back that we were going to make a change to the landing page to allow you to read news articles in-client instead of being linked out to your web browser. A few unexpected rounds of guerrilla bug warfare later and we’re almost ready to flip the switch! Expect this quality-of-life improvement the week after 5.17’s launch. That’s technically also still in the days following our initial announcement, right?
- Fixed a bug where Zekeâ€™s Harbinger was granting +250 health
- Skarnerâ€™s tooltips updated based on 5.16â€™s mid-patch update
- Skarner no longer gains Crystal Charge if his target blocks R – Impale or the mark proc ofE – Fracture with a spell shield
- Champion ghosts created by Mordekaiser’s R – Children of the Grave now properly inherit Morde’s champion level for the purposes of per-level scaling
- Olaf now properly ignores the knockback from Syndra’s E – Scatter the Weak while under the effects of R – Ragnarok
- Sion’s Q – Decimating Smash knockup animation has been extended to match the actual duration of the effect
- Nocturne’s E – Unspeakable Horror tether no longer persists through the revive animation of Guardian Angel or Zilean’s R – Chronoshift
- Fixed a bug where the item shop Smite requirement for Jungle items was erased after disconnecting, allowing invalid purchases which resulted in a loss of gold but no item
- Fixed a few animation issues that sometimes occurred when Dragon lost or switched targets
- Bioforge Darius’s shoulder tubes once again light up when casting Q – Decimate
- Woad King Darius now always plays an autoattack animation for W – Crippling Strike
- Readded a missing layer of water VFX for Atlantean Syndra’s E – Scatter the Weak
