This year’s World Championship is fast approaching; here’s a schedule for all time zones!

Recent News

Redbeard New PortraitIt’s getting closer and closer to the ultimate showdown in Seoul on October 19th where we’ll crown the League of Legends World Champions 2014.

As teams from around the world battle to come out on top in their regional leagues, here’s a glimpse at the group stages, quarter-final and semi-final that are going to take us towards the final showdown at Sangam Stadium.

2014 World Finals Banner

The location, or should I say locations, for Season 4’s finals have been announced!

Back in November, we shared our excitement that the 2014 Worlds Final would be hosted in South Korea. Fast forward a few months, and we’ve got even more news to share as we kick off the final countdown to this season’s finale in Seoul.

We’re thrilled to announce that we’re going to be hosting the 2014 World Final on October 19th at Sangam Stadium. This stadium is most famous as the venue of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, and since then has played host to some of the best sporting and entertainment events in South Korea. Bringing the action to so many passionate and dedicated fans requires an awesome venue – and we look forward to welcoming more than ever before in this world-class sports arena.

Of course, no end goal is complete without the journey. This year, we’re taking Worlds on the road and hosting group stages in Taipei and Singapore in September. The action will then move on to a quarter final showdown in Busan, Korea in October before the victorious teams emerge to battle it out in Seoul (home of defending champions SKT T1 K) in the semifinals and final. We’re looking forward to making our first stop in some of these regions and bringing the most talented League of Legends competitors in the world directly to local fans.

Fueling the epic journey through Taiwan, Singapore and Korea will be our brand new event format that now includes a sixteen team group stage arranged from our global leagues. Three top teams from NA, EU, Korea, and China will join two teams from Taiwan and SEA and two wild card winners to fight on the global battlefield. The teams will be placed into four groups and battle it out in the group stages before the top two teams from each group move on to the quarter-finals.

We’re also increasing the number of wild card teams that participate from all around the world. Latin America will face off against Brazil at the NA LCS Regional Final, while Oceania, CIS and Turkey will battle it out on the ground at EU LCS Regional Final for the last spot. We’re opening the door for more teams and more world-class talent from around the globe – all hungry for the chance to lift the Summoner’s Cup.

We’ll be updating in the next few weeks with more news, dates and ticket information as well as all the action leading up to regional qualifiers so stay tuned!

[ mrboo007 ] Why is Worlds hosted in both Taiwan and Singapore?

RedBeard Riotlink Button RedBeard: Cheap trick? I wish…way more complex and expensive actually. We just want to bring the event to multiple locations so different fan based are able to attend and enjoy.

[ batatox ] What if it rains during the finals?

RedBeardRiotlink Button RedBeard: Nick Allen anti-rain dance plz!

[ Kyle700 ] Why are the group stages held in September and the finals over 3 weeks later?

RedBeardRiotlink Button RedBeard: World Cup is over a few weeks.

You think it’d be better played all consecutively? Sounds extremely tiring to me. Trying to give this the proper time it deserves imo

[ DrowsyOne ] Wouldn’t getting visas be more difficult?

RedBeardRiotlink Button RedBeard: As it relates to the locations – half the teams go to Tapei, half to Singapore, so actually not as much travel as it sounds.

RedBeardRiotlink Button RedBeard: Too soon? Nope! Hahahahaha.

Honestly though, we’d love to know what you guys think we should be doing? Clearly missing the mark here, so we want feedback.

Edit: Just want to really thank people for the legitimate feedback and thoughts on this, super interesting hearing it, great ideas in here and am confident we will do a better job this time around (granted our bar isn’t too high :P)

[ sandwiches_are_real ] Feedback on award ceremony Reddit Gold

I know that you, and Tryndamere/Ryze put a tremendous amount of work into this, and are respectively the faces of LoL eSports and LoL as a whole.

But we don’t really want to see you stealing the limelight from the winning team. Last year, one of the SKT members couldn’t even touch the trophy when it was being held up because Ryze and Tryndamere were all up in there.

Don’t raise up the trophy with them. The trophy is for victors – not for the people who built the game. By all means, go out there and shake their hands and congratulate them and give a speech (with a translator!), but don’t hoist up the trophy as if you’ve won.

And let the winning team give a speech of their own (again, with translation!). I don’t really want the pinnacle of a season of competitive LoL to be some suave Californians talking about how great LoL is. We already know it’s a great game, and we love to feel good – but the championship award ceremony isn’t really the time to celebrate just LoL as a whole, to the exclusion of the Season 4 championship victors.

More emphasis on the winning team, please.

I would also like to see some acknowledgment of the second place team.

Edit: The gold, it blinds.

RedBeardRiotlink Button RedBeard: Good feedback, thanks.

[ imtheproof ] Will the Top 2 teams from each group be put on separate sides of the bracket?

RiotNickAllen Riotlink Button RiotNickAllen: yessir.

[ nubit ] Will the quarterfinals be Best-of-5?

RedBeardRiotlink Button RedBeard: Yuppp

[ Follow-up ]

MagusRiotlink Button RiotMagus: Bo5 for quarters, semis and finals.

[ Second Follow-up ]

MagusRiotlink Button RiotMagus: Bo5 throughout the single elimination knockout stage.

[ sammyarmy ] What about groups Best-of-1 or Best-of-2?

MagusRiotlink Button RiotMagus: 2 Bo1s (so a split bo2 if you want to think of it that way, no points though), similar to last year.

[ melkorthefoul ] Unless I’m mistaken, it’s an open-air stadium, yeah? What happens if it rains?

Magus Riotlink Button RiotMagus: Lots and lots of umbrellas 🙂

Riotlink Button Riot Deficio: WORLDS HYPE !!!

[ FelixByrd ] Deficio support at Worlds confirmed.

MagusRiotlink Button RiotMagus: Supporting all the viewers by dropping knowledge bombs.
